We start high in the quiet countryside around Barngates, where gentle climbs and open green landscapes set an energizing tone. The early sections offer wide panoramic views across rolling hills, creating a calm yet focused start to the ride.
The route soon descends into the charming village of Hawkshead. Its narrow streets, traditional cottages, and timeless atmosphere provide a striking change of pace, giving the ride a strong sense of character and history.
From Hawkshead, the road leads through peaceful rural lanes toward Roger Ground and along the edge of Esthwaite Water. This quiet lake brings a reflective moment to the ride, with still waters surrounded by woodland and farmland creating a calm, scenic backdrop.
The journey then becomes more dynamic as we move toward Thwaites Head, where winding roads and rolling terrain introduce a sense of exploration. The landscape feels more remote here, with nature taking center stage and every turn revealing new views.
Approaching the iconic waters of Windermere, the largest lake in England, the scenery opens dramatically. A short detour through High Stott Park adds a secluded woodland section before the route begins to reveal the southern lakeshore.
We pass through Newby Bridge, a peaceful village known for its stone bridges and traditional Lake District charm. From here, the views across Windermere become more expansive, with water, hills, and sky blending into a wide panoramic scene.
